Didn't fish Sabine this weekend. We went to Galveston island state park and Slitterbon instead.
the green water was about 100yds. Off the beach with lots of mullet. I managed one whiting on a chrt. clouser and had to break off a large sting ray. It made 2 runs then sucked to the bottom. The 9wt and 15# tippet wouldn't budge it. Got a real thrill while in the kayak. My son and I were paddling near a large school of mullet when to our surprise a 4 foot shark busted through the school slapping its tail violently. My son,"8yrs old" said,"I'm ready to go back to the beach now daddy!" but we stayed a few minutes more in hopes of seeing it breach the surface again but it didn't happen.
Tight lines,

9/6/2006Sabine lake area fly fishing. The air temperatures have dropped in the last few days and hopefully the water temparatures will follow. This should kick start the action in the area marshes and on the open lake. Sheeps heads have been working the flats over the past month and eating small sinking flies tied on #6 and #8 hooks. Red fish have been hard to find on the flats. The ones we have found will eat gold spoon flies.
