We have received over a foot of rain in the past 7 days. I was sure the fishing would suffer from all of the runoff. To my great pleasure local anglers are still catching fish. The bite is a little bit tuffer with the water clarity but the fish are still there.
I fished the TP&W Flounder round up Saturday and saw many nice sized Flounder donated to the stocking program.
I was told by TP&W that 47 Flounder were donated from 6:00am to 12:00pm when the event ended. There were aprox.10- 2 person teams that fished.I thought it was a good bite because you had to sign up at 6:00am and be back at the tent by 12:00pm. That doesn't leave much time to fish. I was able to donate 3 -16" Flounder to the program. I did catch one nice 25" Red fish and a 14" Speckled trout. The Trout surprised me because I was so far back in the marsh that was flushed with fresh water.
I caught my fish using a 3/8 oz. Chartreuse D.O.A. jig head dressed with a Berkeley power shrimp. I also used a 4" glow curl tail grub. Each rig was tipped with a shrimp flavor fish bite strip.
The live bait was hard to come by so most of the participants used artificial bait to catch their Flounder.
The good fortune kept on coming when my name was drawn for the Shimano Calcutta/TTF rod& reel combo. It was a $300 value. There was also a Boga grip weigh scale and a Garmin GPS. unit given away for anglers that donated fish. There was also a drawing for anglers that didn't catch a Flounder. It was a Shimano Castaic reel, a $170 value.
I don't have any fish pictures, at the donation station TP&W never removed the Flounder from the live wells. They placed a black bag in the water and scooped them up then deposited them in the big fish tank trailer.I am supposed to get some pictures from TP&W next week of the event so maybe I can post them.
Tight lines, Mike
