10/4/2006
Fished Bessie Heights today from 9:00am to 4:00pm
The high tide never really did any thing and the water is still murky. The water temp. has dropped and that can only help things.
I did manage two nice reds on my Orvis T3, 8 wt. rod using a spoon fly.
They were 22 inches and 3 1/2 lb. and 24 inches and 4 1/2 lb.
The effects of the salt water intrusion from Rita are still hanging on.
There is no submerged grass on any of the flats that I have been on.
This is the only reason I can find for the lack of Red fish in the estuary.
I was hoping by this time of the year some grass would start to show, but I haven't found it if it's there.
There are a few fish on the flats but they are few and far between. I saw a total of 5 fish today.
This is an improvement from the last few times I have been on the flats.
Tight lines,
Mike
