Had high hopes of repeating yesterdays catch but they were lost in the fog.
I got to fish with Terry Roe and his wife Danita today. We had a very heavy fog this morning that lasted longer than yesterday. The bite is an early one and we couldn't see any feeding activity until later in the morning. We did manage 3 solid trout just as the fog started to lift but it was to late and the bite had quit. Later the birds started working the south end but we only caught under sized trout and one 5 lb. Black drum. We finally retreated to the river and tried to save the day. We did catch several U/S rat reds and one heavy 27" Red that would go 10 lb., this fish was a foot ball. We only had one Flounder to the boat today and it shook free before the net got it. We were still using DOA lead heads and glow/ chrt shad tails. We did catch the big Red on a pumpkin/chrt. Shad tail.
Terry and Danita are tuff fishermen and hung in there all day, never stopped casting and never complained. My hat is off to them for hanging tuff. Hopefully next time the fog won't show.
No pictures today.

We had a good outing today on the lake. I got to fish with Mark Cook, Rick Russell and Mark Thomasson. The trout worked early on in the morning in the mid lake area, but the bite slowed way down after 12:00pm. We hung in there and the bite started up again around 3:00pm. On the South end of the lake.
today's total was 16 keeper trout , one slot red and one keeper Flounder. We had one over sized Red @ 29" and so many 14 3/4 inch trout we lost count. 95% of the fish we caught bit a DOA glow/chrt shad tail rigged on a DOA chartreuse 3/8 oz lead head. We did catch a few trout and U/S Reds on a Hoganar. A lot of the bites were very subtle, the Power Pro braided line we used had the sensitivity so we could feel the strike and put more fish in the boat.
Got another party to fish tomorrow, hope the trout are still there.

After the 30 mph winds and a 3 1/2 foot tide drop the day before I
took the day off from work in anticipation of great conditions on the water. I also had the pleasure of having Capt. Dickie Colburn as a fishing partner today.
NOT! The wind was almost to strong to fish the West side of the lake but you could if you had to. The worst thing was the lake had the color of a churned up mud hole. We ran from East pass all the way down to the Reef on the South end and the water was all dirty. The only difference was some of the water was a lighter shade of muddy.
We ran back up the West side of the lake and fished the culvert on the North revetment wall and picked up a nice 17" Flounder but the wind and waves were hard to deal with. We hadn't seen the first sign of birds working the whole time
We decided to retreat back to the river and maybe find some better water.
The water in the river was better but still very turbid, even the water coming out of the marshes was muddy.
We wound up fishing the Dupont outfall ditch on the way back to the house. We each boated an over sized Red fish using soft plastic on lead heads.
While we were there we saw several more Reds boated by other anglers. The bite was slow but the fish were there. Looked like most of the other anglers were using dead bait.
We called it a day around 1:30pm and by that time the water in the river had already cleared up some what.
We need a few days for the silt in the water to settle out and then hold on to your hats, the fishing should break wide open.
Sorry for the quality of the flounder picture. The shot that I didn't chop my head off in was way out of focus.

A houling norther blew in this weekend so I elected to work around the house this weekend.
The word still is if you can deal with the 3 foot waves the fish are still there.
I may take a day off from work in the middle of the week and fish if the weather cooperates.

After to many days off the water my son and I braved the ruff seas and cool overcast conditions.
We were rewarded with large flocks of gulls working over Speckled trout. There were a lot of 14" fish caught but by 11:30am we had near a limit of 15" trout and a few 16" to 22" trout mixed in. The wind was blowing to hard to use the fly rod so spinning tackle was used.
Soft plastic DOA shad tails and tout tails in glow/chrt and pearl/chrt on 3/8 oz DOA lead heads
was the ticket. We struggled with pumpkinseed/chrt. and bone/diamond at first but the glow/chrt. Got an instant hookup.
The better fish were just off the bottom but we did catch on a popping cork, but most were smaller fish.
Preston got this nice 22 inch Speck just off the bottom in 8 foot of water.
The spinning gear really makes things better when trying to fish in the high winds we had today, no back lashes. Spinning tackle spooled with power pro braid and 4 foot of fluorocarbon tippet has made my fishing more productive. If you haven't ever tried spinning tackle you might want to give it a try. I did and now use it over bait casters in most situations. The bait casters still have their place though.
The heavy rains of the past 2 weeks don't seem to have hurt the fishing on the lake. If the winds will give us a break there should be no reason for not catching lots of fish next week.
Don't wait to long and miss out on this great bite, give me a call if you need a charter.
