After the 30 mph winds and a 3 1/2 foot tide drop the day before I
took the day off from work in anticipation of great conditions on the water. I also had the pleasure of having Capt. Dickie Colburn as a fishing partner today.
NOT! The wind was almost to strong to fish the West side of the lake but you could if you had to. The worst thing was the lake had the color of a churned up mud hole. We ran from East pass all the way down to the Reef on the South end and the water was all dirty. The only difference was some of the water was a lighter shade of muddy.
We ran back up the West side of the lake and fished the culvert on the North revetment wall and picked up a nice 17" Flounder but the wind and waves were hard to deal with. We hadn't seen the first sign of birds working the whole time
We decided to retreat back to the river and maybe find some better water.
The water in the river was better but still very turbid, even the water coming out of the marshes was muddy.
We wound up fishing the Dupont outfall ditch on the way back to the house. We each boated an over sized Red fish using soft plastic on lead heads.
While we were there we saw several more Reds boated by other anglers. The bite was slow but the fish were there. Looked like most of the other anglers were using dead bait.
We called it a day around 1:30pm and by that time the water in the river had already cleared up some what.
We need a few days for the silt in the water to settle out and then hold on to your hats, the fishing should break wide open.
Sorry for the quality of the flounder picture. The shot that I didn't chop my head off in was way out of focus.
Tight lines, Mike
