Sabine Lake fly and conventional tackle fishing reports & photos

Dale Beaty and I had a good outing this morning despite the heavy fog.
We caught solid Speckled trout up to 19 inches along with a dozen rat reds and one 15 inch Flounder in the Sabine river today.
We fished from 7:45am to 12:30pm. The bite just about stopped at 11:00am but we kept fishing any way and I caught the keeper flounder at 12:15pm.
The fish were holding on the breaks in the river at the 8 foot to 14 foot transition areas.
We fished DOA glow/Chrt shad tails on 1/4 & 3/8 oz DOA lead heads. We tried Pumpkinseed/Chrt. tails but only had a few fish bite. The glo/chrt was the winner by a long shot.
I also feel the Power Pro braid I was fishing made a difference. Dale elected to fish monofiliment and boated far fewer fish than I did, the bite was subtle and hard to detect.
I was surprised that we didn't catch any slot Red fish? The Red fish bite has been steady for the past several weeks and the trout have been slow but it looks like things are changing to a trout bite. The stringer of trout and one Flounder weighed 14 lb. That's what I call solid keeper trout
Tight lines, Mike

Made a run to Baton Rouge yesterday and purchased my Louisiana guide license. I made it back in time to wet a hook and see whats going on in the evening. The Red fish had full bellies from the morning bite but I did catch 3 Speckled trout in 14 foot of water on the Sabine river.
The Glow/Chrt. DOA shad tails are still catching fish on the deeper breaks in the river.
The Red fish bite is still strong but they seem to bite better before 1:00pm.
I tried a glow/chrt clouser on an Orvis depth charge sinking line but I only got one strike and didn't stick the fish.
Any way at least I had time to fish for a couple of hours and got fish on my hands.
I have open dates left in December and I'm legal to fish in Louisiana now so give me a shout if you want to get in on the fantastic red fish bite that's still going on in the river
Tight lines, Mike

Got to fish with Simon Holt and his buddy David Creel today . Simon is from England and David is from South Africa. We caught a lot of rat Reds today and this nice slot Red. All of our fish ate glow/chrt DOA shad tails rigged on 1/4 oz DOA lead heads. I tried hoganars and different color plastic but the glow was all they wanted.
The Dupont outfall is holding lots of rat Reds and a few slot Reds. If you fish fresh shrimp the bite is steady on Rat reds and black drum. We did catch one 12 inch Flounder today, who says they migrate to the Gulf in winter. Tight lines and dress warm if you hit the water, Mike
