The water is still high and very muddy. We did have a hard tide swing on Tuesday but it was short lived with muddy above normal water levels returning.
I most probably won't fish this weekend either.
Now is the time to tie flies and maintain your fishing equipment.
There are also several events coming soon that will interest the fly fisher.
On February the 3rd the Texas fly fishers will have their annual fly tying festival in Houston from 8:30 am to 4:00pm. I have attached a link to their web site for more information.
www.texasflyfishers.orgI'll be there doing tying demonstrations so stop by and shoot the bull for a while.
I have learned a tremendous amount about tying flies and fishing them over the past years at this event. When I first started going I thought how cool it would be to participate in this event and now I get to actually be a part of it.The dyers are very friendly and want to help the beginner and maybe give a new tip to the more experienced tier so don't be afraid to ask questions.
On February the 24th I will be at the Houston Orvis store on Westheimer giving slide shows on fishing the Texas/Louisiana marshes for Reds,Trout,Flounder,Stripers and Sheeps heads. Programs are supposed to start around 10:00am., call Marcos at the store for the time schedule, 713-783-2111.
The gulf coast counsel of the Fly Fishing Federation will hold their first Gulf coast fly fishing conclave on May 19th from 8:00 AM to 4:00PM. I'll be doing tying demonstrations there from 8:00am to 12:00pm. This should be a really big event with a few top names as guest speakers.
I'll post more information and a link at a later date.
Tight lines,
Mike

Wish I had a good fishing report but the heavy rains have kept me off the water.
I have a late report"last week" from Bessie Heights from a coworker of mine.
Greg Lebalnc caught several nice keeper flounders and some Speckled trout fishing a falling tide in the main canal. He was fishing soft plastic tails on 1/4 oz lead heads.
The water is high and muddy all over the area and we still have a lot of dirty water coming down the rivers.
The great bite we had going on the past month is washed out.
It's time to start wading the flats in the lake as soon as the water starts to clear up some.
Big mullet patterns should produce some nice Red fish and trophy sized Speckled trout in the coming weeks.
Tight lines
Mike
