We hit the flats today in search of Red fish on the Louisiana side of the river.
The flats look in good shape, better than I thought after Rita came through.
It almost looks like the marsh is healing it's self with the scattered grass clumps taking root and breaking up some of the wide open areas. We had plenty of water today but way to much wind and hardly any sun shine before noon. We only saw one red working a grass line busting some bait, but we never got a shot at it. The bait really hasn't moved onto the flats yet and the water is still chilly. Hopefully by this time next month things will change.
We stopped by a Flounder spot at noon on the way back home only to find the Speckled trout feeding in the area. We boated five keepers from 15" to 17" in an hours time. I wish we would have been there at 11:00am. because the bite stopped at 1:00pm. I'm sure we could have gotten a limit if we had started at the top of the bite. The trout liked D.O.A. key lime shad tails rigged on 1/4 oz. D.O.A. chartreuse lead heads swam just off the bottom in 6 foot of water.
Tight lines,
Mike
