I went to prefish for a trip next week and see if the Louisiana marsh ponds were holding any Red fish this morning. We only actually saw about 6 fish in 8 hours.I boated this 4 1/2 lb. Red about 8:00am using a soft plastic Horny toad on spinning tackle. Later in the day I boated 2 small rat Reds using a gold spoon fly on an 8 wt. blind casting.
We didn't see any large Reds all day. There was lots of bait mullet in the ponds but there was an absence of crabs. Maybe that's why we didn't see any larger Reds in the area?
Going to scout Bessie heights on Sunday. Hopefully there will be more fish than in the Louisiana marsh.
