4/5/2008 Poor Conditions but I just had to go
The wind is blowing from the North at 15 mph and forecast to increase to 25 mph. There is a heavy blanket of clouds keeping the sun from shining through but my son Preston and I have the itch to fish so we headed out any way. I figured we would just fish the old Cow bayou section from the power lines out to the river and stay out of the winds as best we could. We fished Horny toads and a Red fish magic spinner bait dressed with a Root Beer D.O.A. shad tail. Preston had a fish strike his Horny Toad but the hook missed it's mark. I switched to the spinner bait and found it to the liking of the Bass and Red fish. We never boated a keeper fish but we did manage several Bass and a couple of Rat Reds to our pleasure. The water has warmed up some but is still very muddy. The marsh cane helped break the high wind today and made fishing the poor conditions a little bit more bearable. The sun tried to break through later in the day but didn't show until we were back home. There is some water coming down the Sabine river from Toledo Bend Res. in the next day or so. Hopefully it will flush some of this muddy water out and allow the conditions to improve. I haven't gotten any good reports of Trout from Sabine lake as of late but if the water clears up some that should change soon.
