No wind for a change and clear water!
The weather man was wrong about the temperature but was right about the wind. I had to go to Lake Charles Louisiana this morning to The gulf Coast Council fly fishing conclave until noon as a guest fly tier. As soon as I left I had an after noon fishing trip to run. Jeff Gamble and his son Casey met me at the house at 2:00pm. and we were fishing by 2:30pm. I felt there would be an afternoon bite and I was right. We started slow with a few small Reds and a keeper Flounder. Around 4:30pm we got on another school of small Reds that were 19 inches. We started working our way back up the lake from the Greens bayou area and crossed the lake to find gulls working over Specks and Reds. We caught fish up to 7:00pm, the Specks were solid fish with several going 21 inches. The Reds were mixed but there were several nice slot sized fish. We ended the day with 12 Trout, 6 Reds and one Flounder. Casey claimed the big fish title today with his 27 inch Red. Root beer/ Chart DOA shad tails and Assassin, Bone/Diamond Sea shad tails on 1/4 oz lead heads along with a chrome, blue back rattle trap caught all the fish. Not bad for a late start!
Looks like things are starting to kick off. Now is the time to book a date if you want to catch some fish before the hot weather gets here, Tight lines, Mike
