6/26/2008 Red fish and Thunder storms
Daren Rubink and Mark Myers braved the weather today and made the drive from Houston looking for Red fish on the flats. There were many more thunder storms than Red fish today. We were fishing at daylight and made it to 11:30am before the 1st big thunderhead moved in. Daren made a great cast to one of the only Red fish we saw showing it's back today before we retreated to the ramp. It weighed 3-1/2 lb. and ate a spoon fly. Mark had a Red blow up on his Dalburg diver at 1st light but the hook missed it's mark. We took the boat out and went to eat lunch while the big storm passed through. After lunch we went back out and fished some more but never got any more shots at fish. Another big storm is moving in from Beaumont so we called it a day as the weather was rapidly deteriorating.I think one of the big factors in the poor bite today was that the tide wasn't nearly as low as predicted and never had any movement until around 3:00pm, it was high and dead still most of the day. Daren and Mark were great to fish with and really hung in there & never complained. They are welcome in my boat any day!
Tight lines, Mike
