Back on the lake and Catching Fish !
I took a day off from cleaning up hurricane debris, and other things I should be doing and fished.
I had Harry Chesser along with me today. He was hoping to put a few fillets in the ice box and we did just that. The birds were working the North end of the lake but almost every one was 14 -3/4 inches long. We moved to the east shore line to try and get some relief from the stiff East wind and found more birds working over some very nice sand trout. We boxed several that were 1-1/2 pounds! Looks like the lack of shrimping in the river and lake has helped out the size of the sand trout. We fished South down the Louisiana shore line and boated several nice keeper speckled trout. Harry put this nice 5-1/2 lb. Red in the boat using a CastAway Skeleton spinning rod and a spinning reel spooled with Power Pro braid. It was his 1st Red on light spinning tackle and he had a blast fighting the fish. The bite played out after 2:oopm and we were tired so we called it a day after catching many fish. The best color was Glow/Chrt. D.O.A. shad tails and the longer 5 inch split tail caught less but bigger fish. We tried a popping cork and other colors of plastic but the glow did best. Watch out for the debris left over from Ike. The lake is still littered with floating timbers and plywood.
It's back to reconditioning the house tomorrow so ti may be a while before I get another chance to fish, Tight lines, Mike
