Red Fish Steal The Show !
We had one heck of a day on Sabine lake today. We left the dock before day light and had a beautiful ride out to the lake under a full moon shining in a star filled sky.
The bite a 1st light was disappointing to say the least but the day was just starting. Around 8:00am we were working a shore line on the North end of the lake with top waters and soft plastic, then just like turning on a light switch the Red fish bite was on. At one point in time We had 3 fish on! By 9:00 am we had a 2 man limit of Reds in the cooler and were still catching solid slot sized Reds. The other boat in the party was very near their 2 man limit of Reds along with 4 keeper trout. We fished a Father and Son trip today with the Dads in my boat and the Sons in the other. Terry and Mike fished with me and Dickie had the sons Jacob and Colby. We started to target Trout as we were limited out on Reds. We still caught a lot more slot Reds but the keeper Trout were few and far between. There were tons of 14 inch trout caught today but only a few would keep. Soft plastic on lead or under a popping cork , Glow/ Chrt shad tails, Mr. Browns Chart, green Devil eye lures worked best for us on the trout. As far as the Reds went Bone/chrome she dogs, Chrome rattle traps, the Devil eye plastic and Glo/chrt. shad tails worked for us.
Tight lines, Mike

Lots of fish weighed in at O.C.A.R.C tournament.
Preston and I fished most of the day 8/1/09 but couldn't get any weighing sized fish in the boat. We had a great early morning bite with several solid keeper sized trout but the 26 to 27 inch Red fish we were looking for weren't there. The wind kicked up around 9:00am to a 15 mph blow and pretty much ruined the rest of the day for us. I like to fish artificial and know using bait would make a windy day more productive but I'm just not a bait soaker, no offence intended.
The weigh in saw more reds weighed in than ever before in the 22 years its been going on. 7 1/2 lb. took 1st 71/4 was 2nd and 7 lb even got 3rd. Big speck was 6 1/4 lb.
I think 360 anglers were entered and only 10 short of last year.
The fishing is great right now on lake Sabine when the wind allows you access. Specks and Reds with a few nice Flounder to boot being caught on a regular basis. Top waters, soft plastic are taking most of the fish along with live bait. I'll down load a picture of a red Preston caught Saturday in the next day or so. We are moving back into the house finally! and I'm kind of strung out the past few days..
Tight lines, Mike
