Conditions looked bad but the out come was great !A front blew in on Friday, the wind and fishing was bad on Saturday. Sunday didn't look to be any better at day light but as we rounded the corner of East pass into Sabine lake Paul, Ray and my self saw birds working all over the North end of the lake. The wind was from the North so that helped some to keep it from being not as ruff as it could have been. The only problem was most of the fish were under sized by 1/4". We worked our way South and found some keeper sized Trout and birds working in the white capped waves. It was a struggle just to keep from falling out of the boat much less casting and landing fish. I ask Ray to get up on the bow with me but he refused for fear of falling out, Paul was happy in the back of the boat this time.
We fished all day catching many Trout and Reds. Around 2:45pm. the wind began to lay and the bite got really hot. Reds, Specks and big Sand trout were all over out Rattle traps and Hoganar's. Soft plastic in Bone diamond and pumpkin Chrt. assassins put fish in the boat also but the traps and hogans were steadily bit. We ended the day with 15 keeper Specks, 15 Sand trout up to 15inches and two limits of Red fish up to 23 inches. Our rattle Traps got bit so much most of the chrome and Blue paint is missing. I thought it was cool to feel the Trout bumping our lures as they fell through the water column, fishing with a
Titanium CastAway rod and braided line really puts you in contact with what's going on down below and will put more fish in the boat at the end of the day. It just goes to show you, if you don't go you'll never know.
I have Two trips booked for this coming week end. Hopefully the bite will be as good or better, I just hope the wind isn't as bad.
I would have posted pictures but I managed top leave the camera safe and sound on the shelf right by my fishing clothes.
Tight lines, Mike
