No wind for a change !
Dell and Arlend came in from California this week to visit with friends and to sample what Sabine lake had to offer. Well I think it's safe to say they were impressed with the abundant supply of Red fish and Speckled trout Sabine lake had to offer. They had a ruff day Friday fishing in the wind with another guide friend of mine in the big waves but they still caught fish.
Saturday the weather was totally different. Clearing Sky's and a very light Easterly wind with a low of 52F. The ride out was a bit cool but pleasant. When we reached the lake we saw smooth water and Gulls working as far as we could see in most all directions. Reds,Specks and Sand trout working shrimp on the surface made for a thrilling start to the day. We found many trout just under the legal size but we moved out and south in the lake and found some that would keep. The Red fish made their selves known after 10:00am with a few over sized ones making an appearance and testing our tackle. Arlend "on the Left" boated this beautiful 10 pound 30inch Red using a popping cork with a swim bait 24"under it. In the center is me with a 32 inch 12 pounder that ate a Hoganar bounced off the bottom. Dell "Right" boated this 22" 5-1/2 lb. Red using a Brown's big eye under a popping cork. We could have easily had 4 limits of Reds today.
We finished the day with a nice mess of Specks, Sand trout to 15" and a 2 man limit of slot Red fish.
The bite is on right now so if you want to catch more than you fish during the day give me a call to book a trip.
Tight lines, Mike
