Sabine lake still producing

Even with the enormous amount of run off we got from Toledo bend dam the lake is recovering quickly. From East pass to the Neches river the water looked good, from there to mid way of the North revetment wall it was sandy, from there on it was chocolate milk.

The birds were working at day light from mid way of the lake up to the North end. Specks and Reds were feeding on shrimp.

Bill Heugel and Don McMurry fished their fly rods most of the day and had steady action from the many Specks working shrimp. Don fished a spinning rod for a while to put some fish in the box but went back to the long rod after we had a mess to keep. They landed several nice keepers on the long rods but the smaller flies drew much attention to the multitude of 14-1/2" trout. It had been almost a year to the day when they last fished with me, last year they had horrible conditions as a strong front was blowing through, but not so today.

The best conventional tackle was soft plastic, clear body with red and black glitter and a Chart. tail under a DOA popping cork. Flies in chart and white got bit all day.
We ended a beautiful day with 11 keeper trout to 1-1/2lb. and 2 nice upper end slot Red fish.
The weather and fishing were great and the company was better, it doesn't get much better than that.
Tight lines, Mike
