Freezing temps. roll in with the new year.
Well the new year has started and the cold weather has moved in. I finished blowing insulation in the attic last week end. The new additions to the house from hurricane IKE only had sheet rock ceilings with nothing else. This is the last phase except for very minor items needed to complete the house after the storm. I got it installed none to soon as the temperatures dipped into the upper teens last night. The boat slip behind the house was iced over to our surprise this morning. Preston like any 11 year old boy couldn't stand it and had to get the Kayak and go Ice Yaking. There was no way I was going to give this a try, even though I had been scuba diving in January in my younger years. Thick wet suits were used then, now dry suits are the norm.
Sabine lake had been producing some nice 7 and 8 LB. trout prior to all this clod weather moving in. The shallow flats near deeper water were holding fish later in the day as the water warmed. Bigger suspending mullet patterns, Corkys, Catch 5's, K2000's and Corky Devils. The Red fish are still in the lake and taking soft plastic and the suspending baits also.
I should be able to dedicate more time to fishing this year baring any major weather events.
CastAway rods will have a booth at the Houston Boat show"January" and the Holder show at the George Brown convention center in Houston"March". Stop by and check out what they have to offer. They usually have a good show price special on their products and are happy to answer any questions you have about their products.
Tight lines to you and wishing everyone a happy new year,
Mike
