Cold Water Reds
The weather was beautiful this morning as I drove to church. I just knew as the sun warmed the shallows the Trout and Reds would be moving up on the flats about the time services were over.
I had to stop by my Dad's after church for about an hour and then made the mad dash to get the boat in the water and out into the lake. As I was launching the boat the sun started to get dim as an over cast was moving in and the East wind was picking up. Preston and I made a run for the Louisiana shore line in hopes of catching at least the end of a bite.
It wasn't 10 min. before Preston hooked up with a Rat Red in 2 foot of water. The little Red ate a Browns Big eye soft plastic. That bait had produced well for me all summer long and now it's still earning it's place in the boat. We must have just caught the end of a bite because it was the only bite we had for the next 2 hours. The wind got stronger and the sun got dimmer. We fished all the way down to Madam Johnson bayou but never found any mullet activity. The water had good visibility from Bridge bayou all the way to Madam Johnson but no bait showing with a surface temperature of 52F. I fished a Catch 5 and soft plastic to no avail. Preston One and Dad Zero! Thank God for Red fish, I was thrilled Preston caught some thing and we had a good time. Looks like the Reds are going to be back in good numbers this year. I'm looking forward to a great season, and Lot's of time on the water cause the house repairs are done!
Either way it was good to get back on the water with my son.
Tight lines, Mike
