Very week tide and a very early bite.
Preston and I were fishing for Flounder to donate to TP&W today for the Sabine Flounder round up.
We were very disappointed that the tide was moving at a snails pace and never had a Flounder on in 5 hours of fishing. We were very happy to find schooling fish at the 1st stop. The gulls were wheeling and screeching with joy as the trout and reds were pushing shrimp to the surface. Most of the trout were small but Preston had a Strike King Red fish magic spinner bait on and that's just what Mr. big Red wanted. After a lengthily battle Preston landed a 27" 7 -1/4 pound Red beauty. The sun had just got above the horizon which made the red that much more colorful.
We boated a few more fish before the birds left and got back to trying to catch a Flounder.
I guess we should have stayed with the schooling fish but we want the Flounder stocking program in Sabine lake to be a success so we left.
Glow/ chrt shad tails and HoganAR's are what we caught fish on. The bite was very early as we never really saw much activity all day. Preston had a soccer game at 12 noon so we only fished until 11:20am.The afternoon bite may have been much better as the tide fell but we had other things to do.
Tight lines, Capt. Michael Rector
