The winds have subsided and the fishing is great !

Well the pattern has played out true again this year. It seems the pattern for several years now has been, after Memorial day the high winds lay and we get into a more favorable light wind pattern for the rest of the summer. Well it was true again. Saturday was beautiful and the high winds of the last 3 months subsided. Preston and I made a scouting trip out this weekend. As we cleared the mother rig at East pass we found gulls working over shrimp about a mile South. There were several flocks working so we ran to the ones that didn't have any boats on them, there was plenty to choose from. The 1st cast netted Speckled trout, a lot were under sized but we did find bigger trout under them using a bigger soft plastic tout tail. We only fished about 2 hrs. and the catching and releasing was steady. The bigger trout were in the 17" range but we did land a few closer to 20". I tried to see if there were any Red fish under the trout with a HoganAR but I could only catch bigger sand trout and 2 croakers. The Sandie's were a nice eating size but the croakers were smaller. So where were the Reds? Beats me but another boat I was near said they had seen a few mixed in with the Specks but they weren't in our area in numbers. I'm sure they were around but maybe with another school of trout.
Any way the fishing is wide open and the fish seem to be working all over the lake. Soft plastic is the most popular bait but top waters and crank baits are working to.
Give me a shout if you want to take advantage of the good bite and conditions!
