Major thunder storms in the AM

Doug Taber and his sons booked a trip for Tuesday morning a week ahead of time . At the time the forecast called for light winds and a 20% chance of rain. The day they drove in from Dallas the forecast went to 60% with heavy Tstorms and lightning. For once the weather man got it right. 6:00Am saw really bad storms invade our area. We called it off until 8:00Am as the cells were moving towards Houston. We still stayed close to home most of the day in case the cells redeveloped. Apparently the fish didn't like the storms either as we struggled all day. We did catch a few under sized fish but it was mostly casting practice the majority of the day. I made a complete circle around Sabine lake and never saw any signs of feeding activity. The only sign was when we 1st hit the lake at 8:20Am with gulls working the east pass area. As soon as we got with in casting distance the birds and fish disappeared, we didn't get a single strike!
The end of the day ended with 2 nice slot sized Red fish taken on a popping cork and Texas roach shad tail. The saying is " A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work", well if your a guide this doesn't apply but it goes with the territory. Some days you win some days you loose, that's why they call it fishing!
The bite will improve no doubt as the conditions improve.
Tight lines, Mike
Hot conditions and Trout Green water, Oh Yeah !

James Smith called a day ahead of time to see if I had an opening for this weekend to fish. Saturday was wide open so we left the dock at 6:00am with his wife Heather. The forecast called for light winds and hot temperatures. We thought we would get an early start and be back before the sun got to hot, that didn't happen. The tide was bottomed out when we left the dock but the forecast said it should be moving back in soon, that didn't happen either. We struggled early on but managed some small trout to break the casting practice and a few gafftop catfish to boot.
We moved around the upper part of the lake and found tons of bait along the Louisiana shore line but still no keeper sized fish. Finally at 12:30pm with just 2 keeper trout in the box we found the fish as the tide started moving back in. The South end of the lake was full of beautiful trout green water. We spotted a few birds and soon saw shrimp skipping across the surface fleeing the nice keeper sized trout below. We had 2 limits of 17 inch trout by 2:00Pm but stayed a while longer and tried to box some Red fish to round out the day. We only managed one slot sized Red but caught and released more keeper trout. James got out his fly rod and tied a nice fly on that his daughter had tied for him a few days before. It wasn't long before a healthy keeper trout ate the fly and made our day. The bigger fish seemed to like a Storm wild eyes shad under a popping cork but Texas roach and glow /Chrt. shad tails caught fish to. A silver Hogan AR is what the Red bit.Heather was a trooper and tuffed out the heat with us. She caught so many fish she had a blister on her cranking hand finger. I've worn out a thumb bass fishing but she one upped me his time.
We all had a great time on the water just remember to bring twice the water you think you might need. On another note your Louisiana fishing lic. expired July the 1st so it's time to renew, here's the link for online sales I use.
